I am having a problem with gnome-user-docs. After it failed to update, I tried removing it completely before reemerging it. That didn't work.

Build error:

Exactly the same problem here.

Appeared since this package wants to upgrade from 2.22.1 to 2.24.2-r1.

[EDIT] I've faced the same issue with gnome-extra/avant-window-navigator-extras but trying to emerge it again worked fine.
Very strange indeed but it worked as well for gnome-user-docs.

I also had a problem getting gnome-user-docs to install, but cleaning /usr/tmp/portage didn't help. This fix worked for me:

Code:
MAKEOPTS=-j1 emerge -1 gnome-user-docs

I found the solution here https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255479.

this worked for me, as well
