|
|
Hi everyone. I have a question. I have 8gb of ram, but for now I only want to use 3gb (due to a wine bug on 64-bit systems). I read that passing the "mem=3G" arg through the kernel boot line in grub would solve this, but my system is still using the full 8gb. What could be wrong? I'm using
kernel /boot/kernel/bzImage root=/dev/sda2 mem=3G video=uvesafb:1680x1050-32,mtrr:3,ywrap splash=silent,fadein,theme:livecd-2007.0 quiet CONSOLE=/dev/tty1

Pull four gigs until the bug is repaired. That's the easiest way.
Blessed be!

I understand that'd work, but I'm asking why isn't the mem arg working the way it should be working... |

Your best bet on finding that out is to write a bug about it, and see where that goes. Kernel devs don't come here as a general rule. And I'm thinking this is a real guts-of-the-kernel issue that requires the knowledge of a kernel dev.
Blessed be!

Actually, come to think of it, it's not even respecting the splashscreen arg anymore... |

Finally figured it out.
It seems the Option under "Kernel Hacking" "Built-in command line overrides boot loader arguments" was turned on. This must've happened after 2.6.28 because that's about the time I lost my bootscreen as well.
I ticked that off and now everything works as it should |

Why be mad? Your system is running as you want it. Celebrate the success.
Blessed be!
