|
|
I just built a new computer and am attempting to install Gentoo from the AMD64 Live CD. The CD fails when attempting to load the X server and drops me to a command prompt.
Quote: | Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. WOuld you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem. |
When I click "Yes" the errors given are:
Quote: |
dlopen: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so: cannot open share
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so
(EE) Failed to load module "glx" (loader failed, 7)
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
|
I click Exit and it prompts:
Quote: | Would you like to view the detailed X server output as well? |
This gives much more detail, but the same errors.
After this it dumps me to a command prompt[/code]
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Some users have had trouble with the Gentoo LiveCD. It's a bit old and buggy.
You can use just about any LiveCD you like to install Gentoo using the stage3 method in the Gentoo Handbook.
The Gentoo-based sysresccd is popular.
There are weekly Gentoo Minimal CDs under the /experimental directory on the mirrors. See this. You can get up-to-date stage3 tarballs from there too. |
