try using:
winex "Diablo II.exe"
with double quotes or something like:
winex "Diablo II.exe" -- "Diablo II.exe" |

You could just rename it to DiabloII.exe... _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

I did what you said Delta and now I think it might work.
How long does it take to build the Font metrics? Its been saying that for a while now. I have a 550 mhz with 512 megs of ram.
Thanks for the help. |

Quite a while, depending on how many fonts you have installed. (Though I though the stock winex config only enabled one font or something... anyway.) _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Oh ok, well I dont remember installing any other fonts. Hopefully it will finish soon.
Do you know of a way to check to see if its actually doing something usefull? Its showing 99% of my cpu.
Thanks |

It probably died if it's still running. On my box, it generally takes under a minute, with about 60 fonts. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

winex is broken?
Try eliminating all but one or two fonts. From the FAQ on the TransGaming site:
Quote: | How come I can't see all my fonts in WineX?
By default, WineX restricts the list of fonts that it uses to just four standard fonts. This was done because most games tend to make use of their own font technology rather than using the standard Win32 text handling system. Scanning through fonts the first time WineX launches can be needlessly time consuming.
This behaviour can be reconfigured in the ~/.transgaming/config file (and the /usr/lib/transgaming/.transgaming/config master file). Just search for:
[FontPatterns]
"Pattern0" = "-adobe-times*"
"Pattern1" = "-adobe-helvetica*"
"Pattern2" = "-adobe-courier*"
"Pattern3" = "-misc-fixed*"
You can manually add a favourite font to that list, or you can just remove the FontPatterns entries altogether to have WineX process all of your fonts. |

ok, im a newbie, and confused as hell right now. I keep seeing these messages about .transgaming and that folder, but all winex complained about was .wine. I emerged winex. Could that be the problem. Im so confused about all this, I havent been able to find any real good documentation about this. Does anyone have any know of any good documentation? I used mainly www.winehq.,com sites.
Thanks |

Okay, I've emerged winex20020807 and installed Diablo II. The install went smoothly. But now I cant run the game. When I <winex "Diablo II.exe"> I get nothing. Just a new command line. I've tried renaming the .exe to diablo2.exe, I've tried <winex /mnt/cdrom/playd2.exe> with the same effect. I've turned on all debugging, but get no error messages. Anyone have some idea? _________________ embrace the wrevolution

this is a cd-copy-protection problem, you need to get a noCD crack to use Diablo2 with the winex cvs version (winex ebuild version is the cvs version!)
You can get game cracks from www.gamecopyworld.com
The binary winex version can handle the copy protection of some games... |

Oh yes, you can. I played LOD in BNET long time, it works perfectly. You just need a script that exchanges your cracked .exe and the original one just after the game is started, look at holarse.net for detailed information. |

If I use winex to start the no-cd executable that I got from gamecopyworld for the 1.09D update, lod.exe, I get the screen popping up saying "Choose single player or multiplayer", but after my selection, I get the error "Cant execute game_crk.exe in current Dir". The program's output is:
/usr/lib/winex/bin/wine: could not load library 'C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Game_crk.exe.so' as Winelib application: C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Game_crk.exe.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directo
What's the problem here? |

Never mind - I found the answer to my own problem. Start lod.exe, choose the battlenet option, let it not work, then, in another terminal, copy the Game_crk.exe that was created but would be removed if I were to cancel the lod.exe program. Then let lod.exe die, restore the Game_crk.exe, and run that with winex. |
