the kernel is 2.6.28-gentoo-r2. Can anyone please tell me the latest kernel version that works with vmware

You have 3 choices.
1. Find the patch that allows vmware-modules to build and apply it either manually or in your overlay.
2. Go back to kernel 2.6.25
3. Get vmware-server-2 using the vmware overlay _________________ Regards,
