I like that there is more information, but maybe it could be more consolidated? It alternates between GLSAs and blog posts and I think readability would be improved if they could be grouped together somehow..
All in all, it's a good improvement. |

Yeah, that's true. Navigation could be squeezed up to the top, and that freed up side space could be used for GLSA and blog updates. Just a suggestion. _________________

maybe I'm mistaken but where's the big difference between "Community" and "Get involved"? They almost show the same links, so why not folding it into "Get involved"? _________________ Your ebuild bug is assigned maintainer-wanted? Maintain it yourself in the gentoo user overlay

Seems GSLA, Blog Posts, Packages should be on sub-pages of the Main News Page.
ie.
Main News Page (usually monthly notices etc)
GSLA News Sub Page
Popular Blog Posts Sub Page
Package Notifications Sub Page
I enjoy looking at the GSLA News every now & then (mainly only the popular GSLA news) and I also enjoy the Popular blog posts.
I only like to hear package notifications when something popular is unmasked such as GNOME (or KDE if you must).
(blah... this wiki list code would provide a better hierarchy layout. :-/ ) _________________ Roger

I like it.
I don't like the "Other". Should't be any "other". Something meaninful instead.
For example:
dot ORG
Developers List
Developers Map
Projects
Council
Foundation
Gentoo Store goes to Community, right after Sponsors.
Search! I can't find wish list. I would put Search into wish list.
Never liked flying plate or whatever it is... |

The idea was "Community" is more aimed at users, while "Get Involved" is aimed at people who want to get involved in development. _________________ http://gentoo-wiki.com :: http://lug.org.uk :: http://www.linux.org/groups/ :: User Blogs |

I don't deserve any of the credit. Xavier and the bug reporters did all the work. _________________ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

You can subscribe to the Planet if you want blog posts, and go to the security page for a GLSA feed. Perhaps packages.gentoo.org has a new packages feed too. _________________ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Thanks! A bit cluttered, but better than it was before. _________________ “And even in authoritarian countries, information networks are helping people discover new facts and making governments more accountable.”– Hillary Clinton, Jan. 21, 2010 |

Firstly, good job! Thanks for all your work. Now this place is more useable.
But I don't think that putting everything together is a good idea. In my opinion, homepage should be a brief review of every action and event in the "Gentoo world". Maybe you should try to create some kind of sections, for example new packages or blog post. The point is to put it together in one place. I'm also thinking about some calendar, the place where we can see every coming event like Bugdays or council meetings. What do you think? Of course I appreciate every change, it's much better than it used to be.
One more time - thank you! _________________ Gdyby Bóg popierał przedni napęd, chodzilibyśmy teraz na rękach. |

Nice work and a good idea!
It helped me find a newly released package (tivodecoder) and I also find it interesting to read the developers' blogs _________________ He's just a poor kid from the stupid ages. |

Very nice indeed.
The inactivity on the primary Gentoo website could be interpreted as a decline in activity, or even the approaching death of Gentoo.
But there is one "but" (isn't there always?):
With this new approach we've lost the channel for publicizing official messages.
Well, they can still be posted, but they'll "drown" in the avalanche of other information.
Any thoughts on that?
Toon. |
