There are a thousand threads on this wifi controller and module, but it's not clear to me from any of them whether I can get n-rates with this combination. I have support in the kernel ("Enable 802.11n HT features in iwl4965 driver").
It's also not clear to me whether all I need is the firmware code in the appropriate directory or whether I have to compile the module WITH it in the right directory and have "build firmware" enabled in the kernel config.
At any rate, wpa_supplicant is working ok for me with this configuration, but I don't connect to the local 802.11N access points at faster than 54Mb/s and iwlist doesn't show them as capable of this, although I've seen my network adminstrators do so.
Will upgrading to kernel 2.6.27 and the iwlagn module help? Or is there something else I have to do to activate support for the n standard in the module and/or wpa_supplicant in my current configuration? |

Try the kernel 2.6.27 and after that if you still have some problem with speed, then we can check your current config |

...it'll be a few more days before I have time. It's a Lenovo X61 tablet, and I've since seen references to the wifi card in some of them having n-mode "disabled." I'll have to check the hardware configuration more carefully, because lspci shows an unknown device. |

For you unknown lspci, try this :
Code: |
# update-pciids
# lspci -v

Thanks for that tip. It shows up now in lspci, although it unhelpfully says "Intel Pro 4965 AG or AGN", or something like that. I'll have to pore through the specs for this model, I suppose. |
