hi all,
after recent emerge -Davu world ( involving kde4.1.3 ==> kde4.1.4) it happens that when I run some kde applications (almost all), these start to run always in fullscreen mode.
I've searched into system settings for some global windows settings but I can't find any.
I'm pretty sure I can go and modify by hand each application's config file but I'm not sure where to search (found some in /home/user/.kde4.1/share/config) and how many app to modify

I've tried to modify /home/user/.kde4.1/share/config/kwriterc to make some tests with kwrite and this is what i found:
Code:
[MainWindow]
Height 800=801
State=AAAA/wAAAAD9AAAAAAAAArwAAAG8AAAABAAAAAQAAAAIAAAACPwAAAABAAAAAgAAAAEAAAAWAG0AYQBpAG4AVABvAG8A$
Width 1280=1281

I've modified values of Height and Width to something like 800=400 and 1280=400, started kwrite and no more fullscreen. :D

But shouldn't this file reflects the change I made through kde interface? I mean, I launch an application (krdc for example), this app for some reasons starts in fullscreen mode, through kde panel I right click on the app under Advanced and uncheck fullscreen. I suppose in this way kde has also modified the value in the file krdcrc. But if I close and reopen krdc, it's still in fullscreen (and of course also its config files still has Height 800=801, Width 1280=1281)...Instead if I manually change the value into the config file, the app works as expected.

Is there something broken? Someone can point me to the right direction?
Should I have to manually change these values in all config files? with the help of some scripts maybe.. :)

Thanks

Dunno about kde, but what about moving your .kde to i.e. .kde_old, start with a new profile and if that works ok, either merge the changes from your old profile or make your settings/changes again.

I've tried to move my .kde4.1 to .kde4.1.old and let kde create a new folder... result: same as before.. As first I tried to launch konsole, and BANG! It was still in fullscreen...
Really strange, any other suggestions?

ps. thanks anyway ph030 :)

I have got the same problem as you with kwrite and dolphin. What is weird is that other kde apps like kate, konsole, don't have this problem.
I suppressed the kde folder and the first launch is ok but if I close the app and open it again then I'm back in fullscreen and the F11 key doesn't work.
It happens since I moved to 4.1.4 and Nvidia 180.22

Any help would be really appreciated ;)

yes, I've upgraded to kde-4.1.4 too, but on my pc happens also for other apps like krdc and konsole, korganizer and kmail...
it's just like some apps don't save their last config state when you close it.

Also for some of these, manually change the config files works, but not forever 8O
I just reboot my pc and start a konsole, fullscreen again.. until now changes seems to persist only for dolphin

So, it doesn't seem to be a user-related issue but something "global".. am I wrong?

Disabling Session Management into CompizConfig Settings Manager fix this for now. I can't reboot until tomorrow to see if changes persist, but give this a try

I'm still experiencing this with KDE 4.2 -- anyone else?

Well, FWIW, I resolved my issues by disabling "Legacy Fullscreen Support" in Compiz-Fusion. :D
