I've installed pidgin, but I cannot run it:
Code:
gentoo@laptop ~ $ pidgin
bash: pidgin: command not found

It's not in the xfce-menu too.
Finch works fine. Has anybody met this problem? Or do I run it with a wrong command?

Code:
emerge pidgin

creates only two files in /usr/bin, "finch" and some "purple-client-example", but the latter doesn't work - it fails with a segmentation fault...

What are your use flags for pidgin? Here are mine:
Code:

[ebuild   R   ] net-im/pidgin-2.5.3  USE="dbus gtk ncurses nls perl -bonjour -debug -doc -eds -gadu -gnutls -groupwise -gstreamer -meanwhile -networkmanager -prediction -qq -sasl -silc -spell -tcl -tk -zephyr" 0 kB

Err... I should have realized that :) . Thanks a lot!
BTW, do you think it is a good idea to set gtk flag generally when I'm not running Gnome, but Xfce4?

It is, after all, a "gtk" flag, not a "gnome" flag. XFCE is gtk based, so I'd say it's safe and even recommended to enable it.

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads, please see Pidgin merges fine, but where's the bin?
