afaik there aren't such "personal firewall programs" for linux like they exist for windows.
firewalling is part of the linux kernel, the userspace frontend is called net-firewall/iptables.
if you do not want to use iptables as-is, try net-firewall/shorewall, it's quite easy to configure.
there isn't much antivirus software for linux Code: | app-antivirus/bitdefender-console
app-antivirus/clamav
app-antivirus/f-prot
app-antivirus/klamav
app-antivirus/clamtk
app-antivirus/kav4fileservers
app-antivirus/panda
app-antivirus/xfprot |
clamav is completely open-source. |

There isn't much anti-virus for Linux for a very good reason: There isn't any viruses.
The only people who use anti-virus on Linux are those who run file servers for Windows clients. If you are not one of them, forget anti-virus.
The iptables require a bit of searching around and reading, but its isn't too bad. You should be able to find a basic iptables firewall setup to get you started. Let me know and I can post mine here for you. Most of the other firewalls are built on top of iptables, so if you don't mind reading and studying a bit you might as well use that.

EDIT: Just found the thread I did some time ago on iptables. I used this as a bases for my iptables firewall: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-4856444.html#4856444 |

I wouldn't say that. There are malware and root kits for linux. According to wiki....
Quote: | The number of malicious programs—including viruses, Trojans, and other threats—specifically written for Linux has been on the increase in recent years and more than doubled during 2005 from 422 to 863.[4] |

Anyways, I do recommend iptables for your system. It's relatively easy to learn and very powerful.
