Does the bootsplash issue still happen with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11? I read in the change log that it was supposed to fix boot splash issues. _________________ --First General Edgaer

There's a new boot splash out that is supposed to be 2.6.7 compatible. So maybe that'll work with qingy. _________________ --First General Edgaer

I have had some success with nitro-sources, search the forums and you'll find it. It has the vesa-tng patch which I got working, and it is patched with bootsplash, however I am not able to load an image. But it's a step closer, Qingy worked properly...... |

I use the xyz-sources and glibc-2.3.3.20040420 (compiled without ntpl).
The kernel does not have the bootsplash patch or the vesafb-tng patch.
Qingy is working with that setup.
I'll recompile glibc with ntpl and see what happens. _________________ I emerge therefore I am |

I'm having some problems here with qingy. It's exactly what I'm looking for, but I can't seem to get it to start right.
I put qingy in my /etc/inittab like this:
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/qingy tty1
and so on. But whenever I log in, it just spits me back at qingy. For example, if I log in as root, it says "Greetings, Master...." likt it's supposed to, the mouse cursor goes back to the center of the screen, the background reappears, and I'm back at qingy. If I try going to virtual console 6, which is still agetty, I get a qingy background, and a few seconds later, a qingy login. Same if I hit ESC twice. Qingy runs fine from the command line, but that's not the point, is it?
Also, I can't seem to get it to run in anything but 640x480, even though my /etc/directfbrc says mode=1280x1024 and in /etc/fb.modes i have the 1280x1024 entry at the top. I even copied the output of fbset into /etc/fb.modes. It still won't work. The ant is still a small picture surrounded by lots of black.
Any clues I'm missing? _________________ word. |

you have to recompile glibc without nptl use flag, then recompile DirectFB
There is some problem with the newer kernel versions and nptl with DirectFB
post your grub.conf file for the other framebuffer issue please |

i thought the nptl issue was unrealated to mine, but that just goes to show how well i can read. No nptl is a compelling reason NOT to use qingy; I'm a java programmer and i really need the speed of nptl. _________________ word. |

well, there also is the thought of using qingy and nptl if you dont mind reverting to somewhere around 2.6.5, I know that 2.6.5-gentoo-r1 works with nptl and qingy....and bootsplash..... |

Correct: gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1 has it all.
BTW, qingy 0.4.1 is out, in Portage, and unmasked on x86 _________________ Linux *IS* user friendly: it just appears

Uhm, last (Portage) stable version of qingy was 0.2.3, which did ./configure tests to check for PAM and other things, while newer version ebuilds make heavy use of USE flags; you could check them out (expacially the pam one).
Ah, I'll be on vacation until the end of August and I planned a few trips, so I'll not spend much time online during this period... _________________ Linux *IS* user friendly: it just appears

ah, PAM, i had problems with this when i built my laptop, it always wanted to emerge pam (even with -pam) but if it did i could never login so i un emerge pam and blocked from being re emerge.
Not sure where to go with this one but will have look and see if can comeup with anything.
I do have -pam in USE and i also have pam and pam-login in my package.mask file. _________________ Work Station - 64bit

Er, did it, or did it not?
Well, I assume 0.4.0 worked for you
I put a small change in CVS, can you test the CVS version and tell me wether it worked? _________________ Linux *IS* user friendly: it just appears
