is there an option in openbox to set the desktop size? I am using it with xfce4 panel and I don't want applications to maximize over it.
I also tried perlpanel which worked correctly with maximized windows but it is not mature enough for my uses yet. |

xfce-panel have some options in itself that modifies what layer it should be in.
try skippy, there is a nice tread about it here somewhere... _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

I have tried skippy...it's a expose-ish task switcher. Doesn't have anything to do with desktop size.
Also, to set the desktop size using xfce4-panel I would have to be using xfce4-desktop which would kill my openbox menu. I gave up on xfce4-panel anyways because it's graphical pager would only let me have four virtual desktops (and I have six). So it looks like I'm back to gnome panel for now until some other gtk2 panel comes along or perlpanel matures some more. |

Been running Openbox 3 for a couple of weeks now, really love it.
I'm using pypanel and some dockapps, and I just decided to get over the pager thing, as only the GNOME pager shows icons, and I don't much see the point of a pager without app icons. I just taught myself the order of my desktops and scroll with the mouse wheel. No prob, really.
The one problem I am having is... how do you set up wmsetbg to give per-desktop wallpaper? The -w switch does not seem to work.
Is this because I must have the same number and names for my WM desktops as for my OB desktops? Is there some WM config file I'm supposed to link to OB (the way you have to do for fluxbox)? If so, what file, and how?
I don't really want to use ROX's pinboard, as then you get a whole buncha ROX, and while ROX is cool enough, it's not for me, and running it is too much for just trying to get per-desktop WP. I don't have Enlightenment installed, so I don't have esetroot atm.
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance. This is the only thing keeping OB from being completely perfect. |

Here is my combination :
rox -pinboard
xfce4-panel
gkrellm2
openbox
I prefer to use xfce4 panel because it suites my needs and it can be made to autohide.
pypanel or perlpanel doesn't work on my AMD64. _________________ "I'd rather have a President who does it to a woman than one who does it to his country" -- Shirley Maclaine

Thanks for sharing, headache, but I don't want to use the ROX pinboard, and pypanel works just fine for me (but it's good to know about the 64-bit problem, as I'm planning to upgrade soon).
I specifically would like to know how to get wmsetbg to work under Openbox to set different wallpapers on each desktop (or esetroot, if that would work where wmsetbg does not-- I'm not completely unwilling to install E if necessary). |

I think you want http://fluxspace.sourceforge.net/
Also, Esetroot comes with Eterm, not the full Enlightenment ebuild. |

ddd, for example. Won't run. Complains.
vncviewer - crashes on fullscreen.
gnome-panel - requires DISPLAY=:0. And if I'm running on a different display than I normally do?

Thank you, Mongrol, but fluxspace flatly does not run. I was using it under Fluxbox, so I am a bit familiar with it, and had a config file already.
I basically edited the config file to run nothing but the Painter module, with my wallpapers set for the various desktops, and then tried both fluxspace & and fluxspacebg in my openbox start script and the result is that I have no wallpaper at all.
Is fluxspace not compatible with OB3 (as opposed to OB2), or am I missing a configuration step?
Or, again, does anyone know how to configure wmsetbg to be compatible with the OB desktop protocol, so that the -w switch works? wmsetbg does at least give me one wallpaper, which is better than none (for me). |

Does anyone know how I can change the window font size? Not the titlebar font size, but the actual font that will appear in some windows. For instance, my gaim window (using OB) is waaaaaaay too small.
Thanks
EDIT: The font in gaim is of a normal size in my other wm's. _________________ HASH BANG SLASH BIN SLASH BASH

you'd have to edit your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 to have something like:
Code: | gtk-font-name = "Tahoma 8" |
Obviously change the font and size to your taste. FYI, the small font problem is in no way a problem with OB. |

For some reason, this didn't occur in fluxbox / fvwm / gnome / xfce4. Maybe it's a resolution issue?? Anyway, thanks for the help. _________________ HASH BANG SLASH BIN SLASH BASH

Does anyone know if it is possible to get menu icons in Openbox 3.2? I ask because items in the desktops section in the default menu have icons, so I figured it must somehow be possible for regular menu items. _________________ - I

OK, so I am a "HAPPY" OB user.
but there is this one thing bothering me: The maximized windows can't be moved ...
I know someone allready mentioned this here in this thread but I did not find a solution. Is there way to get those maximized windows to move? _________________ Error 404: "Beer not found !!!" |

Move where? How? The window is, after all, maximized, so there should be no room to move it (as there would be if the window did not take up the entire desktop area).
Do you mean to another desktop? If so, you can do that via the titlebar menu (point your mouse cursor at the titlebar and right click), keyboard shortcuts (set in rc.xml), or you can use devilspie to open specific apps on specific desktops.
Otherwise, I'm not quite sure what you mean (and sorry, don't want to re-read this whole thread to find the previous post you might have been referring to). _________________ Holly

No, No, I mean like to move the window around desktop, even when maximized ... Some othew WM's like fvwm and fluxbox can do that ....
In example you take a maximized firefox window and move it 10cm down, so after that it will be 10 cm from the top of the desktop and 10cm won't be visible 'cos thay are out not on the desktop ... _________________ Error 404: "Beer not found !!!" |
