VLC webcam streaming

Hey guys,

Long time Gentoo user, first time poster,

I got me a problem with VLC. I am trying to stream the output of a webcam over my local network so that others in the network can view it. I have the webcam set up and works in VLC if I go to capture devices /dev/v4l/video0 and I can also stream video files over the network transcoding them however I want, but for some reason VLC will NOT stream the webcam no matter how I try. If anyone has any ideas i would appricate it.
