My eeepc is 1005ha , my kernel is 2.6.36!

Did you get SHE running? On my 1000H I can't  can you pastebin .config and what .36-r? kernel you are using? |

SInce I'm having a problem getting my eee-control-tray to load I was looking for something else that I might be able to use in place of eee-control and found:

This is bad. Does anyone happen to have a recent clone of the eee-control git repository? If greg doesn't come online soon I guess we just have to move along and hack eee-control to work with recent libnotify (might be easy). But first we need a mirror of the git repository somewhere. But if all fails it's good to know there are alternatives.

Okay, I found what appears to be a copy (tar.gz) of the last work done on eee-control here:

I know it's asking a lot but if you could possibly take a stab at an ebuild for Jupiter also, in your overlay. I would appreciate it. That program is under active development and it might be better then trying to keep eee-control patched. Their latest release was on April 14th.

Something actively maintained would be great, but I have mixed feelings about Jupiter. For one thing I cannot find it's source. They have a SVN repository at sourceforge, but it seems to contain only binaries and outdated source tarballs – I mean seriously, who checks binaries and tarballs into SVN?!  Unless these things are just hidden somewhere where I didn't look the people behind Jupiter really intend to make it especially difficult to port their applet to anything besides the systems they kindly provide binary packages for. That or they just don't know what they are doing – at least their SVN repo is a complete mess. And if we need to start hacking around with installing rpms I'd say it would be less of a hack to just continue with eee-control. I'd still like to find a recent mirror of the now dead eee-control git repo.

| I'm very interested in seeing eee-control back working again. I hate having to restart to enable bluetooth or the camera, not to mention the loss of the FSB control! |

Some time back I coded up a small utility to change the settings in the /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/ directory. It lets you turn the camera, wifi, bluetooth and card reader on and off, and change the FSB/cpu frequency between performance, normal and power-saving modes. It's command-line only, no GUI, doesn't get involved with hot keys (though I think the kernel handles them if you configure it right), fan control ot backlight.
It's main purpose is to run SUID=root so users in say the plugdev group can change the settings in user-space - all daemons exorcised. I use it with some power management settings scripts to manage the modes (though as said scripts run as root, you could just poke the appropriate values into /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/ files). It would be quite easy to integrate it with the eee plasmoid to allow KDE users easy control of the camera, wifi, bluetooth and card reader without having to enter root's password to kdesu.
If anyone wants it, they're welcome to a copy of the source (once I've tidied it a little) or I could try to make an ebuild for it, though then I'd need a little while to work out a repository.

Does anyone have the eee-control-0.9.6-r1.tar.gz file anywhere? It's not in my distfiles anymore (for some reason). I'd just like to put my computer back the way it was before I got it into my head to try something crazy.
If no one has a copy, what is the process for turning that 0.9.6.5 version into a gentoo ebuild? I have no experience doing such a thing, but with my qualifying exams now over, I have a little more time to learn new skills.
If all else fails, I'll just revert my system without eee-control installed, but I'm not sure how to change SHE levels or turn off the camera manually.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I found that commenting out line 284 in EeeControl/tray.py allows eee-control-0.9.6.5 to install and the tray icon to run.

It turns out libnotify dropped the attach_to_status_icon command along with a few others. I haven't the foggiest how libnotify actually works, but I've got notifications working as well as SHE control, smart fan control, and being able to toggle the peripehrals. I'm not completely sure how to create a diff patch to comment out that one line once the source has been unpacked, but it looks like that's all that would need to be done to get it to work. The tarball on launchpad.net is also zipped with eee-control as the folder name and not eee-control-0.9.6.5, which means the ebuild's directories would need to be modified, or a new tarball with the proper directory name would need to be created.
Right now I have a modified tarball with that line commented out and the directory done with the 0.9.6.5 extension, and I have a modification of jarealist's ebuild that can make use of it, but I haven't anywhere to put these. What needs to be done is further testing to make sure there isn't something broken I don't know about, and I found that portage complains if one does | Code: | | emerge -C eee-control |
even though it seems to remove what it's supposed to. I'd really like someone else to take a look. Does anyone have a place I can upload the files?

Ok, I've modified the ebuild to use the launchpad.net tarball directly. I've also written a patch to take out line 284. Now I just need an overlay where I can put this working ebuild.

I just merged miriya's new ebuild to my overlay and now we have a working
ebuild for eee-control once more. Yay! Give a big hand to miriya who was
working on the ebuild while I was being lazy . Let us know if you have any
issues with the ebuild.
Let's hope that the people at launchpad keep eee-control going for a while.
In any case now is a good chance to mirror their repository . Too bad
they don't use git.
Edit: nevermind about mirroring the repository – they have just imported
a tarball of the source. I guess the development history of eee-control is
then just lost forever

No, I put it in my own overlay (simply known as nuteater) for now. You can access it from layman too.

Hallo! I've found that I made "eee-laptop" built-in during a configure-stage of my kernel. Is it a crucial moment for work and do I have to recompile my kernel because of this problem?
