Hi!

I've tried (not very hard mind you) to install X2. I have an original copy of the game. There are two ways to install, from CD or from existing files. I have only tried to install from CD. I get a message telling me:

"* If you are having trouble with the detection
* of your CD, it is possible that you do not have
* Joliet support enabled in your kernel. Please
* check that CONFIG_JOLIET is enabled in your kernel."

And yes, I have CONFIG_JOLIET enabled in the kernel. And yes, the CD was in the drive...

Any ideas?

X2? Neat! I was playing X3 (in windoze...) for a while and I really liked almost everything about it. I am hoping some day soon that I can play X3: Terran Conflict.

So anyhow, you're trying to install in gentoo. Is the cdrom drive mounted into the filesystem, or is the disk just in the drive?

Look at the ebuild.
Code:
cdrom_get_cds bin/Linux/x86/${PN}

So, is bin/Linux/x86/x2 on your DVD? If not, you probably have the Windows DVD. That's no good - you need the Linux DVD version.

Hi,

yeah thanks for that, I did check the ebuild briefly, but I didn't notice that it requires a Linux version. X2 is pretty cool, unfortunately the physics is all wrong. No inertia or gravity!

X3 reunion is on it's way since the beginning of this year... don't know if there is an English version of the page :?

I have the X2 already and if you use the installation script on the CD you have no problems (they use the same installer for every ported game). The game can get installed into the homefolder or systemwide.
