|
|
I recently bought and built a new computer and then installed gentoo on it.. Everything went fine during the install.. I had a working eth0 connection on it.. Then after the install I go to reboot and during the boot when it goes to bring up the eth0 I get this msg from it:
SIOCSIFADDR: No sucj device
eth0: unkown interface: No such device
-- repeat once more --
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
Then of course it fails. The onboard eth0 is Realtek RTL8201 PHY. So after looking on google and here I found out the sis900.c was what I needed in my kernal.. So I compile it in there and test it.. still doesn't detect it.. Does anyone have any idea how I can get gentoo to see my eth0?
Motherboard is an Epox EP-8RGA+. |

The card might need another kernel module. One simple way of finding out is compiling *all* cards as modules and then try to insmod every single one of them. Um, really, I guess you should assume everyone's speaking out of some external influence. Believe in whatever makes sense to you. |

My MSI board uses the proprietary net-misc/nforce-net drivers that have the module name of nvnet.
Also, you can boot the install CD and check what module it used by issuing an |
