I'm looking to install on a computer with no physical access to a router. It has a RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI card and the wireless network I will be connecting to uses dhcp and doesn't use encryption. Last time I set this machine up, I had to use a wired connection for a few hours until I got to the point where I could use the wireless card. Is this still the normal case? If so, how can I get around it? Will a laptop with a working wireless connection and a short rj45 cable help in any way?
Thank you, good sirs,

Qylvaran,
I'm fairly sure the rt61 driver is not in the liveCD kernel, so you need to get everything for your install onto the target using sneakernet
How you do the file transfer is up to you, CDROM, USB drive, your networking cable, all work.
The minimal CD has a run from RAM option, so you can unmount it when its loaded.
You can set up a staticly configured network to the other PC but you may find you need a crossover network cable. _________________ Regards,

Thanks for this. It looks to be exactly what I wanted.
