Hello world,
I just emerged openoffice (source-version) on gentoo-1.3b-r1 and everything works fine, expect the fact that I can' t change local non-root user' s configuration. On openoffice's Tools/Options/Paths it has /opt/Openoffice-1.0.0/config as User Configuration dir which doesn' t exist. I changed it to ~/openoffice/config, close oo & start it again but it doesn' t save my conf. Anyone knows hot to change it ?

Did you actually type in ~/ into the openoffice config? you should use a full path.

Also have you run the user install? are you running it as a normal user?

I'm having the exact same problem. :-(

Okay, just to clarify:
Having compiled OpenOffice, I go to the dir in opt and [as user syntaxis] do a 21mb workstation install to /home/syntaxis/OpenOffice.org1.0.
I run the "soffice" executable in my home dir, click "cancel" to the "external data sources" popup, and go to Tools/Options in the menu and change the path for User Config from opt/OpenOffice/user/config to /home/syntaxis/OpenOffice.org1.0/user/config.
However, no matter what I change in the Paths or other config, whenever I restart the program, it's as though I'm running it for the first time. Always that annoying "external data sources" popup, and always the Paths and config are reset.

Any flaws in the above procedure? Any ideas as to what's causing this? Thanks in advance for any pointers :-)
Odd, though... given the popularity of OpenOffice, I'd've thought more people would've been bitten by this.

Yes, I am being bitten - what a hassle (gnome2 and gcc3 - test_1.3b)

Has anyone found where this is being held up. I think its a readonly somewhere I cant find. Even copying a working user install from a Mandrake system into the user directory didnt work. Doesnt work as root either for me!

I fixed this problem by running /opt/OpenOffice-1.0.0/setup (as root) and I chose rebuild. This caused the configuration files to be rebuilt. I reinstalled my user and it worked fine...

On the downside: my fonts are horrid! Bold, Italic and all the settings go nuts... Ugh. I'll keep you posted if I can fix this...

Sorry!

Im also having this problem, when i try and repair is sais please insert openoffice1.0 disk..

I also cant save or load files, )( loading files loads nothing and saving causes it to error then quit)

I first emerged openoffice using GCC 3.1.1, which compiled fine, then i unemerged that ( because of the error ) and tried the openoffice-bin.

this is really annoying, i need an office program!!

if anyone can help please let me know.

thanks in advance

Update :

I unmerged it and installed it via the instructions on the openoffice.org site.

It all works fine now, problems sorted
