As I need PPPOE I did a stage3 install.
I would like to try GCC3 and use a stage1 install.
Is it possible to go into my gentoo (hda6 and up) fdisk, create partitions on hda1 (and up), use existing networking and do a stage1 install, (so chroot from / on hda7 to mnt/gentoo on hda1?) _________________ haree |

Well, yes, but... why not just use the install ISO? _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Maybe because there is no PPPoE support in the stage 1 install ? |

Well, you could always install PPPoE once you've booted up the install CD; i.e. boot, unpack PPPoE from hard drive, floppy, or other media, ./configure; make; make install, connect via PPPoE, continue installation. It's not quite as simple as that, but it is possible.
I've been hearing noises that 1.4 (the official GCC3 release) will ship with PPPoE support, so the other option is to wait a little bit. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Errr... sorta.
There will be docs once 1.4 is released as to how your system should be upgraded. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Yes you can, it's easy and efficient. |
