Hello,

I am running Gentoo Linux on my Sony FE21 Laptop.
I use the smartdimmer application (with fading patch) to adjust brightness by pressing Fn + F5 and Fn + F6 (works great!).

I would like to have a screensaver which adjusts the brightness to the smallest possible value and returns to the original brightness if any user interaction takes place. Is this possible with KDE? I mean, getting/storing the current brightness level is not difficult but I have not yet found a mechanism to call external problems (such as smartdimmer) from within the KDE screensaver.

Any suggestions would be helpfull.
