I've looked through the portage, but can't find an answer to this. When I do a:

emerge -vaDp --newuse world

PEAR-PEAR is listed as package to be installed. I don't want this, so how do I find out what package needs it.
Sorry, if its somewhere in the docs, but I honestly could not find it.

use the --tree (-t) option of emerge. --update (-u) may be also useful since you already use --deep (-D).
