For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Would you like to resume merging these packages? [Yes/No] y

additional info for any possible help.

i can forget the kde-4.0.5

another thing to note is still the new slot is not seen yet
plenty of other kde-4.1.2 packages are already installed.

padoor ~ # dir /usr/kde
3.5 4.0
padoor ~ #

continuing the emerge as shown above with the masked packages.

i'd recommend you to indeed stay away from kopete 4.1.2 for now. add yourself as CC to this bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=239542 to stay up to date on the issue.

but alltogether, keep in mind: the package wasn't masked without a reason.

If there are collisions in /usr/share, maybe adding kdeprefix use flag could solve this problem?
