This is something I can't possibly figure out...
* Until today DHCP has worked flawlessly (using dhcpcd 3.2.3).
* But now whenever I boot or (re-)start the ethernet network interface the client will just hang there, apparently not getting any config settings, and never time out (I've waited several minutes, the normal time out is 60 seconds). The only way to get everything to boot and the client to time out is to disconnect the ethernet cable.
* There appears to be nothing wrong with my ethernet network adapter. I enabled the built in network adapter and experienced exactly the same problem.
* There's nothing wrong with DHCP on the ISP side, as I'm writing this on a Kubuntu/iBook connected to the same network as my Gentoo box.
* There's nothing (no router or firewall) between my Gentoo box and the ISP in my home network.
What should I do?
