This is probably a really base question, but I downloaded an icon theme; how do I go about changing the default icons to the themed icons? The theme pack I downloaded is in tar form so I'm imagining I just have to untar it to a specific directory or something.
Thanks for the replies in advance |

Untar the file to ~/.icons (create it if it doesn't exist), and you should be able to select the icon theme from the gnome appearance settings program, *if* you run gnome-settings-daemon (which you probably do if you run gnome). If you don't run said program, you can add a line to ~/.gtkrc-2.0,
Code: | gtk-icon-theme-name = "NAME" |
replacing NAME with the name of the theme directory you created in .icons, and it should work. |
