switch language temporarily (for bug filing)

Hello,
i got a german gentoo system getting lots of german messages e.g. invoking emerge. The problem is, that for bug filing purposes i'd like to change the language setting to "englisch" temporarily (so that i get pure english emerge messages). What is the most suitable way to accomplish that?
