|
|
I have KDE 3.0.2 up and running.
Now /etc/profile isn't sourced for users. This is present with all other DE's/Windowmanager as well (Gnome, Fluxbox, Enlightenment ..). Older versions of KDE didn't have this problem though.
What is the correct the correct way to do this? The whole profile thing is a little with Gentoo in my opinion. For example .bashrc is only sourced for users but not for root. /etc/profile is sourced for root but users only use the PS1 settings (no aliases or path settings). |

OK this seems to be known problem.
Putting "source /etc/profile" to my ~/.bashrc solved it. But isn't that the wrong way? I thought /etc/profile should be sourced for ANY user. |

As for the konsole question:
Edit the first line of /usr/kde/3/bin/startkde
from #!/bin/sh
to #!/bin/sh -login
...
/etc/profile will be sourced when kde starts then
i am not sure why it changed it or rather what it overwrote during the install...but other then this and my splash screen getting changed (from liquid to kde3) that has been the only issue |

Thanks, that did it. But only for KDE. Other WMs aren't affected. I'll keep "source /etc/profile" in my ~/.bashrc for now. |
