What does the custom-optimization USE flag in mozilla-firefox and xulrunner do? It isn't referenced in the actual ebuild files.

Thanks,

Look in /usr/portage/eclass/mozcoreconf-2.eclass. It allows you to set custom -Ox flags.

Code:
 % euses -i custom-optimization
net-libs/xulrunner:custom-optimization - Fine-tune custom compiler optimizations
www-client/mozilla-firefox:custom-optimization - Fine-tune custom compiler optimizations

Yeah I saw that... but what does it actually mean? Does it mean that it won't strip out dangerous CFLAGS? Does it mean it will try and auto-optimise (in the same vein as fftw)?

It means that:
If you enable it: It will use your -O* flags, i.e (-O0, -O1, -Os, -O2). And btw, not -O3.
If you don't: It will use Mozilla's default, which is almost different in some components.

what's the point of specifying our own in make.conf if now there's a USE flag that by default disables our make.conf settings?...
