I am unable to play audio files (MP3, WMA) in Totem. I get the following message when I try to open a file, "An error occurred. Could not get/set settings from/on resource." I opened Totem from a command line and this the output
| Code: | bowerad1@hpwx070212 ~/Desktop $ totem factotum.mp3
** Message: Error: Could not get/set settings from/on resource.
gstalsasink.c(528): set_hwparams (): /play/visbin/abin/audiosinkbin/audio-sink/bin6/alsasink1:
Unable to set hw params for playback: Invalid argument |
I gave Audacious a shot and it seemed to be able to play MP3 files just fine, but not WMA files. For mpeg2 video files I can see the video but still no sound. System sounds work fine. I haven't tried an audio CD yet. ALSA is compiled into the kernel and I have set all gstreamer options to use ALSA.

Solved
I had to disable PC-Speaker support in the kernel. It was preventing my sound card driver from being loaded first. _________________ "If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -- James Madison
