I start compiz and all the window borders the disappear. I have to press ctrl+c then do metacity --replace to turn it back.

Thats a common problem with compiz. Try emerald --replace after you started compiz. I had the same problem, after some fiddling around with the compiz options I put this in a script:

compiz --replace --sm-disable ccp --only-current-screen -a emerald --replace &
emerald --replace

This worked for me, the --only-current-screen option helps with delays in GTK-Apps.

no luck.

just hangs there doing nothing. no output, no effect :S

Hmm, as I said, it took me some trial and error to get the borders, but if you google "compiz no borders" you'll get plenty of options to play around with. Good luck!

Worked when i put

Code:

emerald --replace

in the Window Decoration "Command" box.

But it's waaay to slow... something's wrong with the drivers.

Funny how it compiz works better on my laptop with an i810 onboard graphics thing
