hello, but I'm not using mplayer. I'm using VLC and Totem. When I tried command
#totem -vo help
I get this:
#Unknown option -vo
#Run 'totem --help' to see a full list of available command line options.

Actualy I'm trying to use totem to play my DVDs.

I tried your command vith vlc and that works, so here is output (but playing DVDs with VLC doesn't work - I see only black screen if I'm trying it)
Code:

dharjee,

emerge mplayer and give it that command. It provides a lot of debug about your multimedia setup.
The effect is quite different to your post.

When we have this fixed, you can remove mplayer again.

Hello,

yes I did it alread. So here is an output
Code:

MPlayer dev-SVN-r26753-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2008 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.60GHz (Family: 15, Model: 2, Stepping: 4)
MMX2 supported but disabled
SSE supported but disabled
SSE2 supported but disabled
CPUflags:  MMX: 1 MMX2: 0 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX
Available video output drivers:
   xv   X11/Xv
   x11   X11 ( XImage/Shm )
xover   General X11 driver for overlay capable video output drivers
   null   Null video output
   mpegpes   Mpeg-PES file
   yuv4mpeg   yuv4mpeg output for mjpegtools
   png   PNG file
   jpeg   JPEG file

Mplayer is playing nicely without problem. So it's not problem to keep it in my comp. But I don't know how to setup Mplayer to be default DVD player, and how to play DVD with it. I can only select one video file to play (from /medie/'dvd name') and it' only few minutes sequence from whole movie. So if you could give me some advice about it.
To fix that others problems will be also very good.

Thank you very much

dharjee,

You have some USE= flags missing that will help all of your multimedia applications.
Mplayer says
Code:
MMX2 supported but disabled
SSE supported but disabled
SSE2 supported but disabled
add
Code:
mmxext sse sse2
to your USE="... in /etc/make.conf
then run
Code:
emerge -N world

It will rebuild all the packages that can benefit from the multimedia instructions that you currently have disabled including mplayer.
mplayer has listed the video ouput drivers in the preferred order. xv is the best.

If you add xvmc to your USE flags you 'might' get a better one. Thats nvidia driver dependant.
nVidia have said they will drop xvmc support, so it may have no effect for you. Its harmless anyway.

Totem and vlc both use xine-libs, which will also benefit from this update.
