I recently upgraded my Raid5 array to have roughly 6.8 Terabytes. This is for a media jukebox where I plan on keeping iso copies of all my DVDs so I don't have to dig around finding them.
Anyway I had a hell of a time getting this thing partitioned. I ended up using parted and setting the disk label as GPT. I'm not sure that is right but it was the only way I could create a part big enough to encompass my entire drive.
Now my question is what file system am I supposed to use? MythTV's wiki recommends JFS but when i tried formatting my partition it seemed to make out at 2 Terabytes. I tried this with XFS and got the same results. I don't know if that is because of JFS or XFS or if df can't count beyond 2 terabytes.
Frankly I'm lost, i've been looking all over and I can't figure out how to successfully create a huge partition with a working file system. |

Isn't there a setting in the kernel for large files and large discs (above 2TB)? Do you have those set?
Ah: CONFIG_LBD and CONFIG_LSF. |

Concerning XFS, maybe you've run into the same problem as I did - my thread with my "fix".

I double checked my kernel and I do have large files and large discs set correctly. I think the issue is that current file systems seem limited, I didn't relies this would be a problem when I started so any recommendation would be greatly appreciated. |

So XFS should be able to do it but it seems to stop at 2199GB.
EDIT: Well i was right XFS can do it but it doesn't play nice with GPT for some reason I don't get. I was only able to get it working if i formatted right on the block device instead of using a partition table. Otherwise the partition table would be unreadable by parted after i formatted it to xfs and xfs would only show me 2199GB. |
