ensure that you have the following selected:

CONFIG_SYSCTL=y
CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL=y
CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL_CHECK=y
...

CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL=y

yes they are selected;

CONFIG_SYSVIPC_SYSCTL=y
CONFIG_SYSCTL=y
CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL=y
CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL_CHECK=y
CONFIG_X86_DEBUGCTLMSR=y
CONFIG_QUOTACTL=y
CONFIG_PROC_SYSCTL=y

then try to disable swap prefetch (most likely) & TOI (tux on ice)

same erros and i just don't have any clue.
with kernel-2.6.25 this doesn't happen.

try and disable that mousepoll menuconfig option

CONFIG_USB_HID_MOUSE_POLLING is not set
but problem remains same.

I still think its that patch since it touches code regardless of whether or not its enabled in the menuconfig, I would revert it now but my laptop harddrive died this weekend and I am trying to figure out how to recover the data

usb-mouse-polling reverted. I hope this will fix it.
Also, i'll merge (fixed) reiser4 from -mm into zen ( branch master ). Could someone who does backups, and uses reiser4 on / test it please? Here it works on my reiser4 /usr/portage (i tar xjvpf'd linux-2.6.25.tar.bz2 onto it, and it worked).

It seems that HDAPS is a bit wonky for me. After a git-pull at 1230 UTC I just tried to compile the kernel and this is what the compiler vommited:

I'm sorry if this is a rtfm question but how do I compile 3rd party modules from portage?

Since the kernel is checked out from git, eselect obviously doesn't know about it so I made a manual symlink to the zen sources in /usr/src/linux
When I try to compile a module (madwifi-ng, ati-drivers, ...) I get the follow error (compiler is gcc 4.3.1):

Code:

Not sure about the madwifi problem, but I do know I have had no luck with ati-drivers and any kernel after 2.6.24.

You might need to post a little bit more of the error that portage throws.

thats odd, the manual symlink should world still, you could emerge the zen-sources-9999 ebuild (its just a stub) and it might make zen-sources show up in e-select... the other thing is that not all ebuilds use /usr/src/linux, some use 'uname -r' which gets the running kernel so if u didnt reboot the new kernel yet those packages wont emerge

Madwifi is in zen, no need to compile it separately.

As to hdaps, this is weird, as it compiles and works fine here. Could you show me your config?

http://webs.hogent.be/~601233ed/zen.config
The modules I tried to compile was when booted in zen sources.

I'll do some further experimenting, is there any other info that might be useful?

Why not use madwifi in zen? It's newer, and supports AR5007 now. Ati drivers need to be fixed upstream, nothing we can do, except ugly hacks, which is not the way to go.

Ok the flgrx driver compiled on the gentoo kernel for gentoo kernel seems to work just fine on the zen sources kernel. The madwifi build-in kernel driver however does not.
It compiles just fine and recognises my card yet it does not return any scan results and connecting to a know essid doesn't work either.

:/

Fixed.

The problem was that if hdaps is to be built-in, tp_smapi and thinkpad_acpi also must be built-in. fixed it in kconfig.

usb-mouse-polling reverted. I hope this will fix it.
Also, i'll merge (fixed) reiser4 from -mm into zen ( branch master ). Could someone who does backups, and uses reiser4 on / test it please? Here it works on my reiser4 /usr/portage (i tar xjvpf'd linux-2.6.25.tar.bz2 onto it, and it worked).

will try in a few days from today,

migrating to gcc-4.3.1 & recompiling world+system takes some time 8O

Someone else already tested reiser4, and apparently it works perfectly :)

either fix them & send upstream or simply install & use it,

afaik most of those are already in the mainline kernels, so don't bother :P
