PostPosted: Fri Jun 06, 2008 7:18 pm    Post subject: kde does not show mounted devices Reply with quote

I am attempting (on a fairly fresh install month or so old) to get KDE to show devices on the desktop and when I click on media in konquer. I also would like the popup window to show up if I insert any type of media (cd, dvd, thumbdrive, sd card).

I am not sure what to post as to output. Just ask if you want to see something that would help.
my lshal -m (I took out and reinserted a sd card):
Code:

Start monitoring devicelist:
-------------------------------------------------
15:09:21.112: storage_serial_0x0000c867 removed
15:09:21.112: pci_104c_8033_mmc_host_mmc_card_rca45928 removed
15:09:21.112: pci_104c_8033_mmc_host removed
15:09:21.181: volume_uuid_FC30_3DA9 removed
15:09:23.889: pci_104c_8033_mmc_host added
15:09:24.041: pci_104c_8033_mmc_host_mmc_card_rca45928 added
15:09:24.413: pci_104c_8033_mmc_host_mmc_card_rca45928_storage added
15:09:24.501: volume_uuid_FC30_3DA9 added
15:09:24.699: volume_uuid_FC30_3DA9 property volume.mount_point = '/media/usbdisk'
15:09:24.700: volume_uuid_FC30_3DA9 property volume.is_mounted = true

[edit]6/6/08
Thunar show the sd card as being mounted. Still nothing but what is in my fstab file in the storage media with konquer.

Are you running hal / dbus? If not, then do. If you are, then please post your /etc/group file.

Blessed be!

Ok, that looks good. Have you listed any of the devices you want mounted in /etc/fstab? If so, comment them out and retry

Blessed be!

I had listed the cdrom drive in fstab and when it is listed there it shows up in konqueror but since I have commented it out it stopped appearing in the media section of konqueror.

Yes, and as soon as you put in a disk, the icon will show up on your desktop. That's why it's called automounting.

Be grategful it works as well as it does. It took me (and some others) weeks to figure out how to make hal and dbus work together with Slackware 12. Be glad you don't have to have SMP enabled and an initrd as well like we did when Slackware 12 came out.

Blessed be!

You miss understand that is what i am trying to get and do NOT have yet. The only time the disk show up (whether there is on in the drive or not) is when my dvd drive is listed in fstab. Right now it does not show up in konqueror or on my desktop.

Then you have something set up incorrectly. I suggest you look over all the Gentoo documents about X, including all the stuff from the wiki. I have no optical drives declared in any of my /etc/fstab files, and all my optical drives work, as in automount. Therefore, you have something setup incorrectly, like perhaps not starting hal/dbus at boot time, or something else.

Blessed be!
