Getting Slower Over Time[Solved sort of]

I have had Gentoo installed since late 2006 on this machine.

Its AMD 64 4000+ and has 1 gig of ram, 300gigs of space. (hopefully I'll be upgrading soon)

Well how it goes is, especially lately, its been running slower, Firefox will just lag out sometimes, performance seems to be sluggish.

As I remember in early 2007 I had KDE and I would run Beryl no problem, now I use Gnome and if I use Compiz-Fusion it lags ridiculously.
When I first installed Gnome it ran pretty smooth but now its sluggish.

I even see OpenBox running slower...

Any ideas how to get it back?

I tried eclean but thats about it.

hmmmm, I just took the simpler route out of that and made a new user account, it seems to be running faster, I'm going to copy over all the important stuff and it should be good.
MadGizmo.com is awesome.
