|
|
Recently I switched back to Gentoo after using Ubuntu for a while, and I am in the process of getting set up the way I used to be (before the switch). The only issue I am having is with my printer. I have a Ricoh AP400 connected via usb. This printer worked flawlessly using earlier kernels in Gentoo, and in Ubuntu most recently.
Root and normal users are in the plugdev and usb (and other appropriate) groups.
Now, even though the system shows it is listed and recognized, cups does not list it when attempting to install the printer. If I boot into Ubuntu, it works; if I boot into the current Gentoo installation, it does not work. This sounds like a usb-related kernel issue (?) but I cannot track down the problem. I've attempted using both 2.6.24 and 2.6.25 stock Gentoo kernels, but both with the same configuration. Help is appreciated. Thx.

Don't ask my why, but doing
| Code: | | chmod a+rw /dev/usb/lp0 |
worked this last time, and now the printer is detected. I don't know if this is a long term fix or not - perhaps UDEV might change the permissions back at some point. If so, I'll follow up. If there is no follow up, assume the above works. _________________ Regards.... |
