solved by emerging an older version of wine(1.2.3)
I have downloaded and installed exile3: ruined world but when I try to run the executable(EXILE3.EXE) I get an assertion failed error, here's the error on my terminal:
xe: /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/wine-1.6.1/work/wine-1.6.1/dlls/user32/painting.c:490: dc_hook: Assertion `dce->hdc == hDC' failed.
the game is available for download for free on the spiderweb software website
if anyone needs a link to the game, I'll be more than glad to provide that link
USE="X dos fontconfig jpeg mono opengl png prelink pulseaudio run-exes threads truetype -alsa -capi -cups -custom-cflags -gecko -gphoto2 -gsm -gstreamer -lcms -ldap -mp3 -ncurses -nls -odbc -openal -opencl -osmesa -oss -perl -realtime -samba -scanner (-selinux) -ssl {-test} -udisks -v4l -xcomposite -xinerama -xml" ABI_X86="32 64 (-x32)" LINGUAS="en -ar -bg -ca -cs -da -de -el -en_US -eo -es -fa -fi -fr -he -hi -hr -hu -it -ja -ko -lt -ml -nb_NO -nl -or -pa -pl -pt_BR -pt_PT -rm -ro -ru -sk -sl -sr_RS@cyrillic -sr_RS@latin -sv -te -th -tr -uk -wa -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB
if any additional debugging information is needed please tell me
thanks

Hello blakdeath,
I think this is more a question for the forums in wine.
The AppDB reports that the game is not running with a newish version of wine.
-> http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=1022&iTestingId=77216
How do you run the game ?
Do you use a separate wine prefix ?
Do you use WIN32 Flag (also in install!!)
I got sound problems atm who needs to taken care of so i cant test it, but I would recommend 2 strategies:
1. Try to find out what dll delivers painting.c. Then get the original windows DLL of that one and replace it in winecfg.
2. Try downloading a working wine version and install it locally (--prefix /some/local/game/dir) and try your luck with that. _________________ Thank you for your help.

Teegrins, blakdeath!
Not sure how far you got with it by now, but it looks like wine-1.5.15-145-g29b3902 is the last working version, 091c342f32583464df5ef45ae314d34e9a511c90 being the first bad commit.
I hope that saves some time for ya, and I may look into it more deeply myself at some point, as well as open a bug for it, unless someone else gets to it first. Didn't find anything similar with a quick search (yet). _________________ Kindest of regardses. |
