**Solution (Well Kinda)
It apears it was failing cause DHCP was failing with my bridged VMware connection. Changed to NAT and everything is good
Hey everybody I am a noob when it comes to linux, however, I am trying to change that I am trying to use your install guide to install a version of GenToo. I am booting from the 2008.0 Live dvd in NOX mode and trying to install my ethernet card. I am using a Bridged connection adapter from my VMWare and it doesn't apear to have gotten mounted properly. I try ruinning net-setup but once it is complete is just shows the Lo in ifconfig.
Any Idea what I am doing wrong? _________________ "Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither" Benjamin Franklin

partyk1d24,
Welcome to Gentoo.
VMware provides an emulated network card. Inside the virtual machine, what does lspci say the Ethernet is ?
Post the entire lspci if you like.
You may well need to modproble the kernel module for the emulated network card. _________________ Regards,

partyk1d24,
will load the right driver if its available
should show it when its loaded.
When that works, net-setup should be able to set up your networking.
If you cannot load pcnet32, I recall that VMWare has a configure option to use an emulated Intel Gigabit adapter.
Reconfigure VMware to use that. In Linux its needs the e1000 driver.
Thats modprobe e1000 _________________ Regards,

That says that that module is not found
FATAL: Module pcnet32 not found
Does this mean I need to figure out how to reconfig the adapter like you suggested?
And of course the VMware forums are down :-/
UpDate: Ok so I found this.....
http://www.redbudcomputer.com/howtos/spam/e1000-nic.txt
Followed it and it shows up as e1000, however, it still connot find the module! Anything? _________________ "Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither" Benjamin Franklin |

partyk1d24,
Err, yes. you should also post a bug about it in the 2008.0 beta2 tracker bug in bugs.gentoo.org.
Release engineering may tell you to use the other NIC though but it makes sure that this kernel module is not missing due to an oversight. _________________ Regards,
