you could try the latest drivers (173.08) to see if your problem still happens. Is there anything else crashing?

you are loading the v4l module in your xorg.conf, right? Could you try without it?

who really needs a webcam besides young women who get paid for it?

Just try it. Maybe it helps, probably not. I had v4l related problems in the past, so the idea popped up.
