Have been trying to get wireless working on an HP Pavilion dv6835nr, but all forums and directions seem to indicate that the wireless chipset in this laptop isn't supported. The numbers range all around the one we have here, but there seems to be no reference to 4315.
Code:
02:00.0 0280: 14e4:4315 (rev 01)

Do I have any resort? I can't even find any references to this chip.

I've tried following the directions for enabling support in the kernel and firmware download.

I even tried looking up this number on Broadcom's website: it doesn't exist!

Anyone know what this 4315 is?

After all my efforts, I can do this:
Code:
fbicknel@tink ~ $ sudo modprobe b43
fbicknel@tink ~ $ sudo modprobe bcm43xx
fbicknel@tink ~ $ sudo dmesg | grep 43xx
bcm43xx driver
fbicknel@tink ~ $

... but that's about all I get. There's no /dev/wlan*.

suggestions?

welll, if you're lucky, it actually did work.

Remeber that network devices aren't device nodes. Give an ifconfig -a after loading the modules.

If nothing else works, try ndiswrapper.

Had the same thought (maybe I got lucky), but ifconfig -a showed up no new devices.

I can't find this 4315 listed anywhere. I'll try the b43 mailing list and see if I get any traction there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been using networkmanager, but will look up ndiswrapper and see what that's all about.
