I have no idea how to name my error. I have spent a lot of time searcing the net for solutions ... I just don't get it.... HELP! (F1)
I use dhcpcd. Yesterday I could not login to my adsl. Therefore I edited /etc/conf/net, installed some pppoe client, recompiled the kernel with ppp support (and probably others, as I already reversed those and I'm not back yet).
Now the status is:
I can ping ip's but not sites (as google.com - unknown host)
I can tracepath ip's (google.com - host name lookup failure)
No traceroute6
No internet browser
BUT I CAN use skype (it's the only thing working)
For all possible ideas: thanks.

It sounds like DNS isn't set up correctly. What do you see in /etc/resolv.conf? (Skype may work if it's using IP addresses directly rather than domain names)
Check your DHCP config to make sure you're not stopping DNS entries being set. If your ISP doesn't supply DNS server information via DHCP then you may need to set it manually - see the handbook section on configuration network and /etc/conf.d/net.example for further help. _________________ http://gentoo-wiki.com :: http://lug.org.uk :: http://www.linux.org/groups/ :: User Blogs |

| resolv.conf had only "nameserver and server". I've erased it and the new one is completly blank. |

Yes, it was the /etc/resolv.conf
I finally got the right combination and now everything is working fine.
Thanks. |
