emerge --verify

I notice that the /var/db/pkg/whatever/appname/CONTENTS files have md5sums of installed files. Would it be possible to get an "emerge --verify" feature that would check the files on the system against the stored md5sums and report back any files that have changed?

I'm fairly sure there's a qpkg argument that does that exact same thing, as well as do some "time check". emerge gentoolkit to install qpkg (it's a neccessity for any maintainer!). A simple qpkg --help will tell you what to do.
