Hello

I have been searching the forums and google and I didn’t find what I was looking for.
I would like to know how I can have several kernels.
I would like to compile kernel version 2.6.24 one more time and have this option on startup.
I know how to put it in grub, I know I have to copy the compiled kernel to the /boot, but a problem arises, and the problem is the modules, he is not creating another folder in /lib/modules/ and when I do “eselect kernel list” it only shows me a “linux-2.6.24-gentoo-r4” , something like this, and the name I gave to my compiled kernel was 2.6.24-1, I think he simply does not detect the generic kernel, I have a generic kernel on startup that was created with the CD and another that I compiled.

By the way the .config file stays in the last compiled options?

I would like it if someone would give me some information on how this process works.
I also want to activate the sound on my P4P800s-X motherboard, as in intel chipset, I have done emerge alsa-driver emerge alsa-oss emerge alsa-utils, but it gave me an error on the first one, I think something has gone missing when the kernel was activated, could anyone tell me what I need to activate?
Thanks in advance.

In fact, to have multiple kernel, I always emerge differents[/quote] versions of kernel release, because of the modules problem.

I don't know how to do it right now.

Hi, I have a P4P800 and I use alsa inside the kernel.

Here my options :

Code:

(*) Sound
    (M) Sound Card support
    (M) Advance Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA)
    (M) ALSA
    (M) Sequencer support
    (M) OSS Mixer API
    (M) OSS PCM (digital audio) API
(*) OSS PCM (digital audio) API - Include plugin system
    (*) OSS Sequencer API

(*) PCI Devices
    (M) Intel/SIS/NVIDIA/AMD/ALI AC97 controller

You don't need at all to use the alsa package, just use the kernel feature.

ohh thanks...

my sound is working perfectly, i don't need to install any packages.

i discovered that i have to change the name of the module folder that i indicate in /lib/modules/linux and then i have to do "make modules_install".

Thanks for everything
