i get read errors after writing (that gives no error) on a FAT32 formatted 4Gb usb key

i get strange behaviors with that usb key (no badblock is
found using badblock in rw mode)

then it is remounted ro automatically
and some files have "?????" instead of sizes when listing the
usb key content.

Can you post this when you USB key is mounted

Code:

# mount

Also, can you post your dmesg after a read and a write operation ?

i get "no badblock found" when testing with badblock (full test in read/write mode)
i get no special problem when writing (it does not give any error)

when i read back the written data (on another computer, another OS, etc)
some files cannot be found (there is no special message when mounting).
some files are ok.

is it possible that a block pass the badblock test but really is not
working fine ? if so, how to find them ? i could then put them in a badblock list
to use when formatting...

very strange behavior, never seen this before.

here we go:

from dmesg:

FAT: Filesystem panic (dev sda1)
invalid access to FAT (entry 0xd07e000b)

and the filenames on the key are changed for
this:

-rwxrwx--- 1 n n 756K Dec 1 1946 ???.???
-rwxrwx--- 1 n n 756K Dec 1 1946 ???.???
-rwxrwx--- 1 n n 756K Dec 1 1946 ???.???
-rwxrwx--- 1 n n 756K Dec 1 1946 ???.???
-rwxrwx--- 1 n n 756K Dec 1 1946 ???.???
-rwxrwx--- 1 n n 756K Dec 1 1946 ???.???

other files are ok...

formatting in ext3 give the same kind of problems...

i know that it is probably an hardware issue
related to the usb drive itself

but i just wanna be able to use it or at least a part
of its capacity (its a 4Gb drive) without errors
