Explain my forum username, eh? That's easy....no creativity
This one also makes it easier to recognize myself on the forums, heh heh. _________________ "This is a UNIX system! I know this!" -- little girl from dinasaur park |

Ever since I first started on the internet (6 years ago ) I've used nicks that have the same theme :
Longevity
Old age
Wisdom
My first Nick was Draka (from S.M.Stirlings novels) (the Draka were a alternate future reality, genetic manipulated sub race that through the manipulations would live a long life plus run faster, die harder etc etc)
Then i went for Methuselah (Supposedly the oldest living human, was Noahs great great great etc Grandfather. Lived to be nearly a thousand years old)
But that was to hard for most people to spell and pronounce.. so I changed again.
Senectus : Latin for old age / Old man.
I'm not entirely sure why I do this.. I guess its a cross between pretentiousness/wishfull thinking/depression..
I think the infiltration of "Children" on the net is to blame for much of it.. the Net and the IT industry has turned me into a very mistrusting/cynical person.. _________________ 2800+XP A7N8X FX6600GT

It's simple:
My real Name : Benjamin Judas (Yes, like that guy in the Bible)
Initials: B.J.
And if you would write BJ in words the result would be - suprise, suprise -

| Well, one time I was looking at Sun Microsystem's site and I saw the Sun Blade workstations... After I used it a time or two I became too lazy to change it, so there it is. I'm expecting the trademark infringement letters from Sun any week. |

I have red hair(see avatar).
At college, most of my friends called me red. One particularly dense friend always called me redson, thinking he was calling me red-san (Putting "san" after a name is the Japanese equivalent of saying "Mister" before speaking to an elder in english.) I liked how it sounded, so I use it for forums.
However, I've recently come to believe that many people (particularly males) tend to create online personas which can become separate from their real world self, which isn't too healthy. That's why I use a recent picture as an avatar and if I created another account for the forums, it would be using my real name, Brian Wagner. _________________ Redson

Welll.... um... er... it's my... name... I used to be called LightEning for a while on the first 'net forum I posted a lot on ( http://apolyton.net/forums ) but at one part, on another forum ( http://pub6.ezboard.com/bjasonianforums ) I was convinced that I might want to use my real name on the 'net. A while after that, I decided to start using that everywhere for two reaons: Consistency, and that the "LightEning" nick told people absolutely nothing about my personality. _________________ <laurentius> gentoo linux?

mine is quite easy really. heh.
when i first started using linux i was all over the irc channels late at night (it hadn't occured to me to use the forums yet) on what is now freenode, it was still the old name back then which i can't even remember... well, anyways, in one of the channels, i think it was #linux or maybe it was #linuxhelp, i can't quite remember, we started discussing how much we knew about linux and i jokingly changed my nick to LinuxDolt (i was SlicerSV at the time, and still am in many places)... for those who may not know much english dolt means stupid, or idiot, or not very bright etc. the name has stuck, i do not consider myself so much of a dolt anymore, but this is the name i am known by. just like my first char on EQ had been Yulanaia and called Yul for short... that had stuck for a while too... heh.
as for where those other nicks come from, SlicerSV is short for Slicer Steele Vinesley, one of two made-up brothers from a short-story series i write occasionally, they are a 'Holy Duo' and have some interesting powers... Yulanaia is actually a female name even tho i am a guy, but i kinda like the idea of playing a female in an mmorpg... just seemed cool to me. the full name for the char eventually became Yulanaia Eternalost when i could give her a surname, the name is derivative of Yunalesca from FFX, at the time the latest game in my favorite rpg series. eternalost is a play on the fact that i was CONSTANTLY lost in that game (until the in-game maps came out, i dloaded them all and never became outright lost again... droods are fun )
i am occasionally also known as Viniece, whose full name is Viniece Cloud Vinesley, the other Vinesley bro... whereas Slicer is a fast-talking nut-case Viniece is a constant dreamer who follows the laws of logic for basing all of his rational decisions... Slicer doesn't even comprehend what a rational decision is, he just goes out and does (which is exactly what i was doing when i started using linux, there was absolutely no logic to it, i just suddenly got the crazy idea to use linux, dloaded my first gentoo cd and started wrecking around... heh) |

taskara
hmmm well one day I kinda just was sitting in front of my pc and I just sounded out "ta-s-ka-ra!" and then I thought hey cool that could be a nick name.
then I also have ex.taskara which came about through playing CS online and I saw some friends from an old clan, [CLA]. So I changed my name to ex[CLA].taskara
then later I just dropped the [CLA] leaving ex.taskara _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

My username is also my offline nickname. Why? Tis complicated.
Back in 6th grade (4 years ago), I was asked to pick an email address by the school district. This was before district policy of assigning students and teachers email addresses along the lines of first_initial+last_name+random_2digit_number (So jsmith45). I picked Chizu, attemting to try out some of my new found japanese (I'm still faily bad at it), and accidently misspelled Chiizu. Chiizu=Cheese. Chizu=Map. This email wasn't used for 3 more years, 6th, 7th, 9th grades went by. Then in 10th grade in an attempt to stop pr0n and aim in the school computer labs LDAP authinacation was implemented based upon email address's. So all students were issued accounts to use the computers with their email address (we also got shell access to a Red Hat 7 server, my first linux expiriance and web space). Midway though 10th grade I joined the school tech program, an elite group of students (in our minds and the two sysadmins) dedicated to keeping the schools tech moving forward and working (mostly we are implementing linux across the school and programming). People in this program are commonly refered to by their usernames (a tradition started when they had 3 people named Will). So those autogenerated usernames being called out across the computer labs were common. Mine was unique. My real name (Trevor) got used less and less. Eventually this spread to my non technical friends. Now even on official school documents I'm sometimes reffered to as Chizu. In a paragraph sometime I get called Trevor once and Chizu twice. So its become my second name, only at home am I still soley refered to as Trevor. Some people don't even know my real name.
Its really strange sometimes.
In short:
Chizu = Misspelling of cheese in japanese. _________________ 6*9 = 42 base 13. |

Back in the good old days (somewhere around '95) I used to read quite a lot of HP Lovecrafts books, and I also played the roleplaying game Call of Cthulhu. In his books there is a "great old one" known as Nyarlathotep (from the story with the same name). He is supposedly "the crawling chaos".
Around the same time I was playing some multiplayer fps in the computer labs at my high school (I think it was quake I). Since I thought Nyarlathotep was cool I wanted it as the name of my character. However, the game only supported names of maximum length 8, so Nyarlathotep couldn't fit. So I shortened it to Nylle as a joke, since this sounds kind of silly in Swedish (it's actually slang for face). And then it stuck, and I've been using it for around 8 years now. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

I was writing a book (never did quite finish it) and needed a name for the elven princess (gimme a break, I was 14!). Searched baby name books, came up with Zaraxylia (Zara = princess, Xylia = 'of the woods'). Got abbreviated to Zaria.
I later discovered that Zaria is another form of Sarah, which is my real name. Well, couldn't possibly have a *real* name, so changed the Z to an X and got Xaria.
When I needed an IRC nick in a hurry, and got tired of being 'sarah' rather quickly, I chose Xaria.
Temira is my backup nick, comes from "Temira Dappleleaf" my halfling cleric who was obsessive about healing people, and my first ever dungeons and dragons character. In case you can't tell, I'm a fantasy buff.
My online persona is Xaria the fairy, which goes quite well in my opinion with my husband the dragon |

My nickname.. I have had it some years now. Upon the time I encountered logins within the internet I needed something to use which was not common. I found I liked the word eon, which means a period of time which is so long that it cannot be measured.
I wanted to alter it a bit, since it was going to be my nickname I found inspiration in, nick. Ending up with... Eonic. _________________ Te audire no possum.

I use to call myself 'Diablo' back in the days when playing network Doom was the best thing since sliced bread. But my wife-to-be is Spanish and started looking at me funny when I told her.
Kepler comes from my astronomy project I did for my third year in college where I learned the three laws of planetary motion by a fella name Johan Kepler... can't remember the laws now but I stuck with the name. Not very interesting but at least it's unique (so far!)
(Though if you come across a CS player named El Diablo... say hello!!) |

In the year I moved from my hometown to study, ex-collegues from my school started up a BBS called Olymp. (That was back in '95, Netscape GOLD was to be released REal Soon Now, those were the days.)
A lot of my friends were online there, so this is how I kept contact.
I study Biology, and the day I made my account there (which was the first time I created an account _ANYWHERE_ on the internet) we had had a course about anatomy, specifically the kidney.
Nephros is the Greek word for kidney, and the OlympBBS has kind of a Greek setting (posts are called scolls and BBS-Wizards are gods and demi-gods etc), so I figured it would fit.
(The BBS is still online BTW, telnet://olymp.somewhere.at)

back in either end of 1995 or early 1996 and it was my first time using NIX OS (it was probably linux) and i believe irc protocol did not yet exist but there was "chat". The idea came from my shoe's brand name converse but the whole converse username didnt look cool and original so i just took the verse unfortunately it was already booked. iq (intelligent quality) suddenly popped up in my head probably because of some readings back that day.
but currently im using SheElf when irciing, because i like the way the nazgul mention it in lord of the ring "give up the halfling she elf" _________________ "You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the Swiss hold the America's cup, France accusing the US of arrogance and Germany doesn't want to go to war." |

Horseshoe crab, as ppl call it in the US. IMO, one of the weirdest animals out there (if we only count air-breathing large animals).

Natu Nobilis is a cheap whisky brand here in Brazil. But my nickname doesn't come from the whisky itself (I don't drink whisky).
My story: I read a menu at some restaurant, and suddenly realized Natu Nobilis means "Born noble" . My friends said: "Hmm, okay." and paid no more attention to it. After a while, I said something that sounded chiq, and they said: "Hey, you're a Natu Nobilis, huh?"
Never got the nick in real life though. But I use it for every linux-related subject. _________________ Don't read my sig, please. |

| I once (or twice) read a few books by Susan Cooper (the dark is rising - series) which featured a boy/entity/legend called the Grey King. He also went by another name - Brenin Llwyd (could be a direct translation, not sure). I've used greyking and brenin back and forth, but decided i had to get something fresh. i simply took the B and the llwyd and connected a dash to it. b-llwyd |

You get the bonus points :)
And yeah, it's definitely one of the weirder things you'll find out there. Any species with blue blood (that clots around infections), a dozen or so eyes, chews with its legs, and has been around longer than plants that live on land meets most standards of weirdness I've seen. Definitely a close second on my list of names to use. _________________ It is not like the world will end if I take the day off from eating worlds. |
