I was able to find it with no problems. Granted it does help if you know that the thread exists and you just can't remember the subject or where it is. I just did a quick search for 'what does your name mean' and 6 pages came back and it was on page 5. |

Wow! Search found 285 matches. Impressive!
But how other 283 matches is related to what I'm trying to find?
And when I search "your username" I got "Search found 1080 matches".
I am confident that I am not a masochist. _________________ "Yes, I know Linux runs faster, but they can do that because they have thrown out the weight of the airbag, collision frame and safety belt." —Poul-Henning Kamp |

Papapishu is the native Puerto pollo'ian word for 'Ouch!'
I used to play Unreal Tournament with a dude called "Ouch!", which I thought was a straightforward word..
At the same time, I played Monkey Island 3, and since Papapishu isn't as straightforward as ouch for an expresion you like to say quickly (Try to say "Papapishu" the next time you bang your toe or cut your finger...) I thought it was funny...
Also, some people think it might be something asian.
Better find out what it means... _________________ #359074 |

My forum username is quite original and cryptic at the same time. Here goes (stay with me now)
j - first letter of first name
sleeper - surname
j + sleeper = jsleeper
I would be using somnus, which is the Latin god of sleep, but that's taken most everywhere and I'd have to combine it with something. I decided to stay simple.

like to point out that 99% of people remember other forum members by their avatar.
e.g i imidiately recognise TheCoop via the agent smith pic, the pom-pom guy at the top too.
also 95% of all statistics are made up. |

The problem with that is that for ages TheCoop and ebrostig were the same person in my head as they had the same avatar. After a while it got sorted out as they both post quite a bit, and I got a feel for the people/AI/whatever behind the agent. The Neo w/ Guns picture is also pretty popular and confuses me much.

Do I really need to explain my username ?
Just for the story my other username is Manux or Manuw ... guess why ....
To help my friend on Gaim/MSN to know if I'm currently running Linux (Manux) or Windows (Manuw) and stop bugging me with : " Did you downloaded the last version of blablabla, Come on let's try to beat a record with Collin Mc Rae, I can't see your picture in MSN6"
And know some people are used to call me Manux _________________ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't...

I am usually "Hypnos" (the Greek version), but I am "Somnus" on Slashdot cuz the former was taken. It's not related to my name, but I do sleep a lot, more than anyone else I know.

I teach marine science, and one of my favorite topics are whales. When trying to come up with a new email address a while back that wasn't directly my name, I decided that, if I'm going to have a reputation among my ocean geek friends as a whale geek *anyway*, I might as well accept it-- Megaptera novaeangliae being the humpback whale's Latin name. So I tend to use "Megaptera" now anyplace I need a name.
A close second was Limulus. Bonus points if you know what a Limulus is without using Google :) _________________ It is not like the world will end if I take the day off from eating worlds. |

Since "Christopher" is quite a common name that most people just abbreviate "Chris" (which is even more common), I had to throw in the first letter of my family name, B, so people would know which "chris" it was.
When you pronounce is fast, over and over again, it kinda sounds like "chrispy". After a few weeks of my university graduation internship, people actually called my "chrispy" all the time. I guess it followed me more than I wanted.
Now, 5 years later, I don't really like it, but... oh well
nowadays on other forums I use the handle "kurisu" which is the way Japanese people pronounce my name. |

I've never had a nick before and I couldn't think of anything better at the time I registered. It does actually mean something to me, but it's a long story.
BTW anyone notice that this thread is actually round 2?

I started using the nick "BlackBird" about 10 years ago when my friends and I were usings CBs, because I really loved the SR-71A BlackBirds. But there was someone going by the name "Big Bird", and people kept confusing us.
So I changed to "BlackPhoenix" (see avatar ), but people have a lot of problem spelling "Phoenix", so I eventually just shorted it to "Black".
As for "Black" itself... I wear almost exclusively black clothes, my 2 last cars were black (including the current one), and if given the choice of 2 identical items (except for color), I'll choose the black one.
Also, my desktop background is black, application title bars are shaded black to dark grey, both at home and at work. My dishes are black. My monitor is black, so are my computer speakers. Luckylly (sp???), my hair's natural color is black. |
