I'am trying to install gedit on my gentoo kde environment.

emerge -av gedit fails with the following messages:

Makes 2 of us.

I'm trying to install perlpanel, which pulls in gnome2-wnck.

Same bug.

I also noticed that it the CFLAGS it uses have nothing to with those defined in your environment by your package-manager of choice; possibly they're the flags perl was built with? In any case, that's an ebuild bug, imo - I had to extract the tarball to my home dir and edit the makefile manually to try and find out if it was CFLAGS that was doing it (it wasnt).

Perhaps we should file a bug, eh.

FWIW, I'd been having the same problem. Discovered this morning that I had libwnck ~2.20.1 (ie. unmasked) installed. Can't for the life of me remember how or why I'd done this, but unmerging it & downgrading to 2.18.3 allowed gnome-panel to build properly.

hope this helps.

cheers,

- b.

2.20.1 has been keyworded as stable, not masked since 20th november on amd64 and 21st on x86.
so i dont know what you mean when you say you have it "~"

i think it was unmasked slightly before the corresponding gnome-panel was unmasked... though they have the same dates in the ChangeLog files.
so at some point one could update to libwnck 2.20.1, and still have gnome-panel 2.18.3... which then fails to start. any emerges and revdep-rebuild would still try to merge gnome-panel 2.18.3, which fails to compile.

if you sync now though, gnome-panel 2.20.1 is stable and will be chosen instead of 2.18.3, and will work ok.

gnome2-wnck-0.16 is now in the tree. Tried it yesterday and it compiled flawlessly :).
