(SOLVED) Keyboard won't type on fresh install

Hey guys,
I boot my fresh install of gentoo after manually configuring the kernel, all goes well, until it prompts me for username. I cannot type anything, I guess my keyboard doesn't work. All of the CONFIG_KEYBOARD options I built in the kernel just to be safe. I'm pretty sure all the USB options are built into the kernel as well. So I'm not really sure what the problem could be. Maybe someone can help me out?

I didn't go through the whole list, but have you tried booting up from a liveCD and issue a cat /proc/config? You can then diff the outputs

How can I take the kernel config from the liveCD and just use that one?

cp /proc/config /mnt/gentoo/usr/src/linux/.config ??

then do I do a make oldconfig ?

I'm not sure how to do this,

Here's your fixed kernel config. I found that you had none of the USB drivers loading. I turned them all on, although your system probably only has EHCI and UHCI ports. It's better to have them all.

The new .config can be found here. Give it a shot. It was worked on a 64 bit system, so things should be consistent. You weren't that far off from functionality.

I would I go about using that. What I did was copied it to my /usr/src/linux/.config ( I replaced .config obviously).

Then I ran "make install modules_install"
But it prompted me for a whole bunch of modules, that I couldn't remember if I had built them in or not or what the deal was, eventually I just said no to them all because I didn't want to read them and I thought that maybe they would change the .config file that you just gave me.

What was it prompting me for? Should I have said yes to them instead of no... or should I go through each and every prompt selectively and choose whether I need it or not (even though I thought I already did that in the making of my .config). So is there a way I can just flat out use the .config that you have changed. (Currently my system is crazy broken because I said no to all those things), I guess It even prompted me about ext3 and ext2 Filesystems because it won't mount my root. So I guess Spamming no was a bad idea... Now I'm not even sure what'll happen the next time I copy your .config again and run "make install modules_install"

Or am I doing it wrong? What do you suggest I do?

Thanks for the .config I'm confident it will work If I knew how to build a kernel by only using .config file and not menuconfig etc..

That's easy.

1) Before you put the .config into the source directory, run make mrproper to clean up old object code and other stuff generated by your first kernel version.

2) Place the .config file in your source directory, and type "make".

3) When that's done, type make modules_install.

4) Copy /<source_name>/arch/x86/boot/bzImage to the /boot directory. You can and should change the name of bzImage to something unique, like vmlinuz-2.6.24-g3. Whatever you name it is immaterial, as long as you invoke it properly in /boot/grub/grub.conf.

5) Place an entry for it in the /boot/grub/grub.conf file.

6) Reboot and see what happens.

If all goes as normal, you should be up and running in no time. Hope it works.

Thanks Works awsome. It turned out the whole .config file wasn't copying into vim because it has a limit I guess. And thats why I was getting prompted for half my kernel
