|
|
Hello fellow Gentoo mates.
I seem to be stuck in a quite annoying situation while trying to install Gentoo on my primary machine.
The Ethernet adapter (Attansic L1 Gigabit) driver isn't available before kernel 2.6.21, and the latest releases of livecd, install cd etc. are all pre. this kernel version. So I am kind of stuck at this point.
I am the happy owner of a Asus P5K (Intel P35, ICH9 combination), which aparently is quite annoying to get working with current gentoo live cd's (can't find sata drives unless mode is set to compatibility while installing, and switched to ahci after). So currently I have only harddrives in compatiblity mode and no ethernet.
Hope someone out there has a good idea, on how to get this machine going with Gentoo.
I tried looking into using Catalyst to make my own custom livecd, but seemed like major overkill. So instead, would it be possible to user another distros live cd with sufficient kernel version to build my gentoo base system, reboot and work from there?
Oh, and I probably left out some essential details, so please just write whichever information might be missing, to give me a helping hand with "this one"
Best regards, Michael

Hi, you can use the SystemRescueCD to boot your box. It's Gentoo based, so just use this CD instead of the minimal CD and there is no difference at all about the installation. _________________ Sysadmin of Gentoo-Québec.org

Why what do you know, it works beautifully. I have network now. And actually ICH9 support works so no need to do any compatibility mode for my sata drives either.
Great! And thank you for the help.. Thank god I didn't start to tinkle with a custom live cd or anything like that. |

Until the 2008.0 minimal installation disc comes out, the SystemRescueCD is definitely the best method of installation. Glad d2_racing was able to help you out. Please add [SOLVED] to the original thread title if the problem is indeed solved. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

Maybe the modo should start a sticky post about what to do when the official Gentoo minimal CD refuse to start. _________________ Sysadmin of Gentoo-Québec.org
