One more try to start a scheduler parameter discussion.

My kernel config says for sched_min_granularity_ns

1000

and /proc/sys/kernel/sched_min_granularity_ns shows

2000000

and there is also pretty much a mismatch for the other parameters.

Can somebody explain this?

THX

I'll check that piece of code later. Maybe we removed some changes by mistake.

THX Waninkoko.

BTW: Why don't you or rmh post in the first "GIT" post of the thread,

some kind of overview about actual and stable revisions.
For people like me, with rather limited knowledge in kernel hacking and development,
downloading the latest git image is not always the best way to handle ZEN.

Where or how do I download the latest or older stable zen-snapshot?
What happened to zen-sources.org?

Cheers

Do i need to have gentoo-sources now to emerge ati-drivers?

I got this this morning when trying to rebuild ati-drivers after building 2.6.24-zen4:
Code:

cosmo zoneinfo # emerge ati-drivers

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "sys-kernel/gentoo-sources" have been masked.

It doesn't say anything about actual stable versions or available stable patch-sets (do you still prepare them?).
It's just a kind of git-HowTo.

If you guys are telling me that's the way it is - fair enough.

is it better now :roll: ?

(I'm not really involved in zen-sources development, so you need to ask waninkoko, rm3093, dodo and the others in charge ...)

Quote:
available stable patch-sets

just do it yourself:

1) pull the whole zen-sources tree
2) cd to it
3) create a patch
Quote:
creating a patch
Code:
Code:
$ git diff v2.6.24 v2.6.24-zen1

4) voilà !

KernelofTruth.

THX a lot.

We're getting there. ;) Looks quite good.

What's IMO missing in the list is

2.6.24-zen4

Nice-To-Have:

1. A comment like stabil or frozen/locked for each of the branch revision, If that makes sense at all or ever happens in a development tree,

2. How are you guys keeping track of the reported problems per branch/revision? I am wondering if it wouldn't make sense to open seperate
threads at least for major kernel revisions. This way folks around and myself can cleary identify where the issues are popping up. It's just an idea.
This way you could also point out in the "Header-post of the thread if this particular branch/revision is still supported, under development, alpha, beta...."
I am of course well aware that keeping track of several threads must be hell of a job.

I'dont really want to make things more complicated than they are. You guys are putting a lot of effort into it. And I really appreciate that. For newbys like me
it'd be just easier to keep track about what you guys are doing.

THX

Cheers

kls,

zen-sources homepage currently is moving to a new server (I dunno why it takes so long, ...)

besides that the old one (when it was working) had a bugzilla section where all of the bugs where collected / could be looked through, hopefully it will come again soon ...

@waninkoko, rmh3093, dodo:
could you please name an ETA when it will pop up on the net ? :wink:

being semi-forced to read through each & every thread is "hard" work :wink:
besides that it's more comfi getting notified via email of comments in posted bugs, etc ..

thanks :)

Wow...

Apparently, Zen-Sources was either mentioned or written about in an Australian Magazine (PCuser Magazine). I got a post from a guy who heard about it over on Ubuntuforums.

Quote:

Well, I found about Zen Kernel reading PCuser Magazine (AUS). But I am not just sure about installing Nvidia driver. It doesn't work. I also tired Envy but failed to install ti.

Are any of you by chance Aussies? I'd love to give that a read.

Hello,

I know I have asked already two times and the answer was later, and then for 2.5.25 to have multiproto driver included :
hg pull -u http://jusst.de/hg/multiproto
If possible directly with patch to add HVR-4000 (and like) support which can be found in http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-March/024487.html (or directly http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/attachments/20080313/0632a118/attachment-0001.obj as a diff).

They are severals reason to include this one :
1) current linux don't allow card with multiple frontend to work (for example mine has DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-T, analog TV and radio).
2) including multiproto in a kernel will allow more testing, and it's backward compatible to DVB driver.
3) one of the first person to have written support for Hauppauge's cards don't want the patch to be included into multiproto before multiproto gets into the kernel...
4) how could we live with a missing feature like multiproto into linux's kernel ?
5) ...

Thank you very much :-) We are really near a 2.6.25 so maybe it's time know to include it now ?

100% ack
I own an HVR 1100 which also has multiple frontends (DVB-T, DVB-T radio, analog TV, analog radio) & it's still not working
*sigh*

*votes for inclusion*

good evening,

today i've tried linux-2.6.24-zen4, and i'd like to confirm, that it runs at least as well as linux-2.6.23-kamikaze5 did, especially on my laptop. powertop informs me about 8 wakeups and 9,4 Watt (compared to 9 wakeups and 9,3 Watt with kamikaze).

Thank zyou very very much!

Okay, I've had a driver request. Would it be possible to include the gspca/spca5xx/ov511 webcam drivers?...wait...I must've left it out in compilation...duh! I forgot it was already included.

Stupidity and tiredness from college aside, here is the article that mentions Zen Kernel.

Branch: master-devel-rt

I have just cleaned the above branch completely, and now only contains:
ext4dev
reiser4
wireless
rt2x00

Please test it.

@kernelOfTruth

Hi there,

Thanks for the little git howto you wrote a few posts back.
Nontheless I'm stuck...

Either you're omitting some commands, my system is borked or I'm suffering from some kind of mental block (most likely reason :wink: ) which makes me incapable of comprehending git.

After a clean clone of the repository I chdir into it to checkout the master-light head. But no go:

Code:
usr/src/zen-sources # git checkout master-light
error: pathspec 'master-light' did not match any file(s) known to git.
Did you forget to 'git add'?

and indeed "master-light" doesn't exist:

Code:

/usr/src/zen-sources # git branch
* master

So I'm a suppossed to do some extra steps before "git checkout..." ?

Even when I create the "master-light" branch myself it won't git pull inside it.

Code:
/usr/src/zen-sources # git branch master-light && git checkout master-light && git pull
Switched to branch "master-light"
You asked me to pull without telling me which branch you
want to merge with, and 'branch.master-light.merge' in
your configuration file does not tell me either.  Please
name which branch you want to merge on the command line and
try again (e.g. 'git pull <repository> <refspec>').
See git-pull(1) for details on the refspec.

If you often merge with the same branch, you may want to
configure the following variables in your configuration
file:

    branch.master-light.remote = <nickname>
    branch.master-light.merge = <remote-ref>
    remote.<nickname>.url = <url>
    remote.<nickname>.fetch = <refspec>

See git-config(1) for details.

I know I could edit het .git/config file to include the right pointers, but it seems to me that should be done automatically. What am I missing/ doing wrong here???

@ejs76:

Code:
git branch master-light origin/master-light && git checkout master-light

first / second post was updated :)

since it's not yet included in your directory, you need to add it & check out

to be honest I'm not yet quite accustomed to git's commands :wink:
