Hi, just upgraded my kernel to
localhost ~ # uname -a
Linux localhost 2.6.24-gentoo-r3 #1 SMP Sat Mar 8 19:10:34 GMT 2008 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
but when I cat /proc/cpuinfo I get.
localhost ~ # cat /proc/cpuinfo

my .config is set to a max of 8 CPU's
if I reboot to Linux 2.6.23-gentoo-r5 all four cores are back, so not a hardware issue!
Will post .config if requested. _________________ If all else fails RTFM.

we need to see the cpu section of your .config... sounds like ht was enabled or something silly...

Well solved this one myself decided to check and update the BIOS on my Foxconn board and kernel 2.6.24-gentoo-r3 works OK all four CPU cores up and running! first time I have had to update low-level stuff after a kernel update !
